Position Details

Within the research group Computational Nano Optics of the department Modelling and Simulation of Complex Processes, we are offering a position, starting July 1, 2026,on a full-time basis (39,4 hours per week), limited until October 31, 2026. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary will be based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.

Background & Context

Photonics is a key enabling technology of the 21st century. Data-based methods play an essential role in the development and application of photonic and quantum technologies. In areas such as sensor technology and quality control, the evaluation of data enables decision-making and quantification processes.

Your Tasks

  • Creation of a setup for the FEM-based simulation of optical metasurfaces 
  • Performance test of simulations running on different hardware, in particular on graphic cards (GPUs) and a CPU-based HPC computation cluster 
  • Investigation of optimal usage scenarios for GPU based computations

Your Profile

  • Completed university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Theoretical Physics, Computational Physics, or Mathematics
  • Knowledge in numerics for PDEs and optimization
  • Experience in running and managint large-scale simulations on HPC systems
  • Good programming skills in Python, Matlab and C++
  • Good command of spoken and written English
